Now, with the evacuation nearing completion, what were the RAF to do with their desperately needed Hurricanes?

If all three of these ships had behaved in a cowardly manner, then one could understand the present attitude of the Admiralty, and this I am afraid is what the average person must think. No mention then of Glorious (apart from her own 812 Squadron) but the planning for Operation Paul would change again rapidly over the following 72 hours. The Admiralty refused to give me the address of the survivor, but after a great deal of trouble I found him by myself. By the 5th June 1940 he was building up a head of steam over Operation Paul. On its last mission, Hurricanes from 46 Squadron successfully landed on HMS Glorious without arresting hooks, something that had never been attempted, let alone done before. Acasta also hit the Scharnhorst with her main guns but came under heavy and accurate fire and was badly damaged. Once at Scapa Flow, Heath was placed under house arrest awaiting a court martial on the return of HMS Glorious from its next mission in Norway. This explanation is not convincing. Kenneth Macksey, in his book “ Invasion” went further and sighted the torpedo hit and damage to Scharnhorst as putting an end to German plans for Operation Sealion;  the invasion of Great Britain, planned for July 1940.
