I feel like Citizen is one of those books everyone’s read in some portion. A nuanced reflection on race, trauma, and belonging that brings together text and image in unsettling, powerful ways. The story follows Edie, a 23-year-old trying to find her way... A provocative meditation on race, Claudia Rankine's long-awaited follow up to her groundbreaking book. Each word is a lyrical tribute to Black Americans and all that isn't shouted out on a daily basis. Whether Rankine is talking about tennis or going out to dinner, or spinning words until you’re not sure which direction you’re facing, there is strength, anger, and a call for white readers like myself to see what’s in front of us and do better, be better.
