In February 2004, work began on a new £11 million flyover at the Colton Lane/Bilbrough Top junction, allowing for the closing of the central reserve. The A659 (former route of the A64 through Tadcaster)[1] is to the left, with University of Leeds Headley Hall Farm to the west. m55-m6 northbound junction blackpool area. After another mile there's a traffic light controlled junction where the B6159 ends its multiplex and forks off to the right along the original western end of the A63, and the road carries on through a few more sets of traffic lights until it reaches the A6120 Ring Road, and the road has a multiplex with the A6120 for half a mile uphill to the next roundabout to the north (the A6120 is the signed road here). There are some grade-separated junctions, on the Tadcaster bypass, built in the late 1970s.
This roundabout has lengthy queues at peak time, and is scheduled to eventually become a grade separated junction. Submit new location. From here the road runs along the southern side of the Vale of Pickering.

To the east of the junction, the former ECML (through Selby, now NCN 65) is crossed, south of York College. From here to the Ring Road there are guided bus lanes down the middle of the dual carriageway, and there are two lanes each way. I have also been campaigning hard to improve safety both at Crambeck and at Rillington I have met with Highways England on several occasions, along with the local councillor Caroline Goodrick and campaigners, Andy and Carol Sollitt, to find a way to make sure the stretch of road near Crambeck is made safer, following the tragic deaths of four people last summer.

The single carriageway sections of this road are dangerous, and local people hope for a new dual carriageway. It crosses the Yorkshire Coast Line to Filey, next to Seamer Junction where both lines meet for Scarborough, and passes Seamer railway station. Most of the road would have been built as a dual carriageway, apart from the most easterly section. Detailed work was undertaken in the early 1990s but both proposals were shelved in the late 1990s and have not been subsequently reinvestigated. At Ganton it passes the Greyhound.

The preferred route for a dual carriageway for the A64 will be announced in the summer of 2019 following a six week consultation starting this Autumn. Going east in the direction of Scarborough, it passes the Highwayman cafe on the left, and the Vertigrow Garden Centre, close to where the former York to Beverley Line crossed. As detailed above, the majority of the road east of York, with the notable exception of the Malton bypass, is single carriageway and in the early 1990s proposals were drawn up by the Department of Transport which would have seen the road dualled between the Hopgrove Roundabout and the start of the then recently opened Seamer bypass.
