Things start inflating dramatically when you hit the larger sizes, though.

They’re much cheaper than the NANO99 8K models, and much easier to fit into typical living rooms with their 55 and 65 inch screen sizes. Now that it's not an immediately new model, you can also pick it up for solid reductions. It's also still widely available, so is potentially a great TV to buy. The TV will be wall mounted. The whole TV comes out approximately 20mm from the wall.

Both get Filmmaker Mode, if you want a more raw experience, and both support Dolby Vision IQ for brightness adjustment based on the ambient conditions in your room. You still get the latest version of LG’s webOS platform, Dolby Atmos sound decoding, Dolby Vision HDR support (including Dolby Vision IQ), and the Filmmaker Mode.

Given there are TVs supporting all these features available this year (and some which supported some of them last year) you'd think they'd be here pretty soonish. Launch dates: Some retailers are suggesting a potential June launch for this. It's more expensive than the CX and doesn't come with a pedestal stand, so it should really only be considered by those who plan to wall-mount their TV. Developed by the UHD Alliance in tandem with the film-making community, Filmmaker mode is designed to make a TV’s pictures resemble as closely as possible those of the monitors that content was mastered on. Which resulted in much better black levels, much more shadow detail, and far, far less backlight blooming.

This is because, as I’ve discussed in this previous ‘first impressions’ article, LG has introduced new backlight controls for at least the upper levels of its 2020 LCD TV range that look set to transform their performance. They replace the previous E series, which used to combine premium designs with superior audio systems. However, it also uses a new power management system to control how much light goes to different parts of the picture. Although LG has not officially announced the selling prices I believe the retail will be $1,999 for the 48" and 55" CX. The included low-profile 'no gap' wall mount, which hides all the cables, is a marvellous bit of engineering.

The BX and CX (and, indeed, the rest of LG's 2020 OLED range) feature HDMI 2.1 ports, and all the support required to exploit their full potential.

LG GX As you move up the LG OLED range, the big differences are in design rather than in the technical capabilities. That's the only fundamental difference between the two processors; each does a stand up job of making things look fantastic otherwise, and features options like de-judder and black frame insertion for motion blur reduction. As well as manufacturing its own OLED TVs, LG sells its OLED panels to the likes of Panasonic, Sony, Hisense and Philips.

There’s a new improved version of LG’s own AI Sound feature too, though, which adds improved voice clarity to the already impressive efforts it delivered on last year’s Z9 8K models.
The CX (left) has very slightly narrower bezels than the cheaper BX. The NANO91s get a crescent-shaped, centrally attached stand, while the NANO90s get feet under each corner. Especially when it comes to color performance - something LG’s NanoCell TVs already do well. A nice bright spot giving me something to look forward to after a trying few weeks.

It's the only manufacturer that actually makes OLED TV screens, and while others like Sony absolutely put LG's panels to good use, it's maybe no surprise to see that LG offers the best OLED price/technology balance with its LG BX and LG CX TVs. Also was told by an LG rep showcasing the tv earlier in the month that the GX has anti reflective coating whereas the CX does not which would help me in the battle with keeping the curtains closed with the wife.

LG has progressively stepped through numbers over the past few years and now switches to X for 2020. They will also still get both the new Dolby Vision IQ and Filmmaker Mode features.

So even if you don't end up buying an LG-branded TV, you could still find yourself watching an LG OLED panel. They also get LG’s Alpha 7 Gen 3 processor, rather than the Alpha 9 Gen 3 processor used on the 8K LCD TVs. Also retained is the 20W/2.0-channel configuration and complete with Dolby Atmos decoding found on the smaller models in the NANO91/NANO90 ranges. For comparison, the 65in GX costs £2,999 ($3,000, AU$).

Sure, there's no native 8K content out there, but this TV is ready for the future, with Filmmaker mode, Dolby Vision IQ and a new Alpha 9 Gen 3 AI processor. This year has also seen the arrival of the world's first sub-50in 4K OLED, the brilliant LG OLED48CX.

Which may be why LG is attempting to reinvigorate the tricky mid-section of LG’s OLED range with the GX models. Samsung TVs, for instance, only support HDR10+, not Dolby Vision.
