In the Old Testament, God ushered his people out of slavery in Egypt and brought them to the freedom of a Promised Land. God's people don’t look to instruments of war to save them. Firstly, God's Shelter. He is a fortified castle – a place in which his people gather in safety. 2 Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. This psalm is probably most famous for the phrase, “Be still, and know that I am God.” In the chaos and confusion following a death in the family, Psalm 46 provides the reassurance that God, as the first line says, “is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

I pray with all my heart that her faith would live on in her family. Jesus of Nazareth once said that when people seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness, life's priorities fall into place. Christian people know that God’s word has the power to overcome despair.
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. She was there every day for 13 months, caring for her husband and then later caring for her daughter Bev. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. This Psalm reminds us that God is an ever present helpin times of trouble. God brings stability into the chaos of our lives. For her, real life and real living were always about others – how she could help them, care for them, and serve them. He never takes a vacation. We can communicate with him at any time through prayer. He "burns the shields with fire." Ruby never complained. The same was true of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Christian funeral is a time of quiet contemplation. She liked things down to earth, plain and simple. 46. Ruby, as you would expect, was his number one caregiver. Ruby and Sig had to deal with hailed out crops, a serious car accident involving Sig, and several surgeries for Ruby. She was a true friend to many people. And he "breaks the bow." His presence enriched her life in many ways. He's always "on call." God makes wars cease unto the end of the earth; breaks the bow, and cuts the spear asunder; and burns the chariot in the fire. And now, the Lord has taken her to be with Him in heaven. Selah. Her faith influenced everything she said and everything she did. The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved; he uttered his voice, the earth melted. God's people remember what He has done for them.
Ruby was a wonderful mother to her own family, but she was “mother” to others as well. and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. According to the Psalmist, God makes wars cease.

I close with this. And now, the Lord has taken her to be with Him in heaven. We prayed for her often. He dwells in the hearts of those who trust Him. Surely not! In Jesus' name.

We are part of the Body of Christ come join us. Like all of us, Ruby Wolfe experienced her share of difficulties. Two other gifts that she received from God – gifts that she used every day, were the gifts of caring and hospitality. At a funeral, as we are doing this afternoon, we turn to God's word for guidance and advice. They are God's Shelter, God's Salvation and God's Sovereignty. For Ruby, as I say, life wasn’t all about her. The philosophy she lived by was that life wasn’t all about her. In a similar way, God brings his people out of the slavery of sin, to the freedom found in His Kingdom. Instead, they trust in Him, through his Son, Jesus Christ.
